Workshop on narrative systems

To be held in conjunction with Hypertext 2026, London

The Narrative and Hypertext workshop (NHT) aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum to bring together individuals from the humanities and technological communities to share work and discuss state-of-the-art research on narrative from both a technical and aesthetic perspective. This is the 14th iteration of one of the longest running and most successful workshop series at ACM Hypertext.

This year’s workshop is particularly keen to see submissions exploring early work, blueskies ideas, and provocations on how innovative new technologies (such as AI) and ideas are changing how we tell stories. However the workshop will continue to consolidate the community by providing an open interdisciplinary forum of discussion on key issues facing the field. Including (but not limited to):

• Social Media as Narrative

• Mixed Reality Storytelling
• The experience of writing Hypertext

• Ethics of Narrative Hypertext

Researchers and practitioners working with hypertext or narrative will be invited to attend this workshop. Participants will be asked to submit an extended abstract of 500 words on their work. These will be reviewed by a programme committee for their potential to incite valuable discussion and selected authors will be invited to either give talks or participate in a panel 3 weeks after the submission deadline. All the selected abstracts will be made available on the workshop.

The planned event is a half day Hybrid workshop with sessions based around short presentations of the paper submissions from attendees, with emphasis on Q&A and discussion.

Submissions should be emailed to Charlie Hargood chargood@bournemouth.ac.uk by midnight AOE on the deadline date of 27th July. Note - this deadline will not be extended in order to ensure we can return notifications before the early bird registration deadline.
